National Novel Writing Month

NaNoWriMo is a one month time period, 30 days, where want to be novelists around the world write a novel of their choice. The minimum amount of words needed to be a "winner" is 50,000. It's completely by the honors system and anyone that finishes their novel in 30 days gets the satisfaction of knowing they accomplished something they put their mind to. I've been lucky enough to participate for the last 5 years and have "won" or finished four years. I hope to end this November 5 out of 6 wins!

The novel participants write can belong to any genre and focus around anything they choose. I'm a young adult fiction writer so most of my stories revolve around teens, young love, and family issues. Everyone suffers from writer's block including myself. There has been a thread created called "dares". Participants will post a dare to the thread as a challenge to all other participants. Sometimes dares are easy, "Include a character in your story who never says a word but shows up in every scene." Other dares are hard, "have your main character die, confirm the death and then have them show back up as an animal later on and everyone just understand's it's the main character in a different form". It's all just fun and a great way to add words to your count even if the story doesn't make all that much sense at the end.
